Always students first for this Tuscarawas Alumna

An act of kindness and innovation landed this Tusc Hero a Wayfair Dream Classroom for her efforts and expertise in teaching while making sure her students have exactly what they need in order to be successful.
Brooke Herbert, a first-generation college student, graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Kent State Tuscarawas in 2015.
She said that her affordable education located very close to home made the dream of getting her degree in teaching a reality.
Getting her foot in the door working as a substitute teacher at Beacon Academy, a public charter school in Canton, Brooke soon had her own classroom of second graders. After just a year and a half, she was recognized for her performance driven orchestrated teaching style techniques and was placed as a Kindergarten teacher. Facing nothing but an empty classroom, Brooke sold her sectional couch, purchased a less expensive sofa and used the rest of the money to get her students needed classroom supplies.
Word quickly spread of this gesture and intrigued her teacher friends.
The school principal sent her story to Wayfair, entering her in their Dream Classroom Giveaway. Now Brooke’s classroom is in a league of its own from top to bottom.
Brooke is surprised that selling her couch to raise money for her classroom and students has resulted so much attention and appreciates all the support she has received.
Thank you, Brooke, for your dedication to your students and for being a part of the Kent State Tuscarawas family.
